Gangrel trainslation5/10/2023 Their animal side is strong and feels good, while their human side feels empty and devoid of like. Those on the animal side might not have any control over themselves, exist to enable the bad habits and desires in others, simply find it easy to not really try, etc. Those on the human side might tell you that you are still human and should make it matter, others might lead by example, others might consider those who don't try to be like parasites (there is a tradition where the clan thinks that they should share in all things, even hard earned luxury and power with those who would waste and destroy it), etc. ![]() Actually not really torn they are being dragged to one extreme (the animal side) and its up to them to resist the pull and to the other direction. It seems that the Gangrel are torn between 2 extremes, their unnatural animal side (a monster side, not to be mistaken as a natural and pure animal side) and their human side. Anything else they are and do is in some way tainted/flavored by this basic tenet.Ĭoincidentally, I recently finished reading the Gangrel clan book, so its contents are still fresh in my mind. They are my all-time favourite clan, and I never run out of interesting new concepts to explore with them.Ī thing to remember, though, is that regardless of the character concept, regardless of the aspect you choose to play, Gangrel are inherently, at their very basic conceptual core, savage & macabre. The canonical Gangrel characters are pretty varied, and most Gangrel characters I see in play are equally so. Gangrel are also often portrayed as the flipside of the Ventrue coin, the two clans being suggested to have a common origin in a number of supplements. A Gangrel character can focus on a wide variety of aspects, such as shapeshifting and transvampirism (an Ordo Dracul Gangrel could be a Vykos expy), roaming scholar (such as the canonical Vlad Dracul character of Requiem), pagan ritualist (a Gangrel in Circle of the Crone could channel Ahrimane-esque concepts), tough as nails leather clad biker boss (such as the canonical Requiem character Count Fucking Dracula, not to be confused with Vlad Dracul) and the list goes on. ![]() For example, a Requiem Gangrel character can be both a Beckett, a Vlad Tepes and a Sascha Vykos. The five clans of Requiem encompass a vast number of character concepts that in Masquerade are more granularly divided into a larger set of clans. Gangrel aren't the nomadic pseudowerewolves of Masquerade, but they do contain that trope still. Not as in "mindless muscle", but as in that they tend to prefer simpler, straightforward solutions over intricate schemes. "Blunt" is a term that still fits the Gangrel stereotype.
